“I want more time, money and freedom.”
If you have said the above sentence more than once your in the right place and you’ve probably been thinking about starting a business online to give you all of the above.
But here’s the thing; you don’t know where to start and feel like that dream is a million miles away from where you are today.
This blog is written to help you get started on turning that dream into a reality.
First of all, anything is possible, so no matter it is that you have in your mind, it can be done.
The only thing that is standing in the way of making it happen is you .
So that’s exactly what we are going to talk about – you.
Over the past few years, I’ve met some great people, actually, I’ve met some really great people who’ve had some great ideas and had a lot to share.
I always try and encourage them to get started on their dreams but they just get way to caught up in the details, and as a result, it’s a case of paralysis by analysis.
And so they do absolutely nothing and learn absolutely nothing that will help them get to where they want to be.
While reading this blog, I hope it gives you the fuel to light your fire and get your ass in gear.
So buckle up and get ready for take off.
99% of the time you learn by doing don’t you? Well, the same goes for business.
But right now when your thinking about starting your business, you think about all the shiny objects at the end result and get totally lost in your starting point.
You think about what your logo will be like, who you can employ to help you on your journey and how you’ll build your website.
Forget about all of that stuff.
It would be nice to know how and it’s great to think about what your life and business will look like but one sure way to never find out is to overthink it and take no action on getting started.
You’ve got to wind your mind back and think about where you are today and what the very first step could be in getting to where you want to be.
So here’s what I want you to do;
Open a notebook and on the top right hand corner of the page, write your vision.
(I’ve attached some worksheets for you to download from my Change4Good course at the end of this blog to help you with this.)
Write down where you want to be.
Write things like, fulfilment, confidence, own your own home, be in a great relationship, run your own business and be financially secure.
Write whatever you like, it’s your dream.
Now on the bottom left hand side of the page write down your reality.
Write your current level of confidence in the area you want to move into, your relationships, your finances, your business skills etc.
Now where you’ve been going wrong previously is that you’ve been thinking of going from A-Z as opposed to A-B.
You’ve been thinking linear and every time you do, you get lost in the details, feel overwhelmed and forget to think about the first step.
So we don’t want you doing that any longer.
Now I want you to draw a stair case from your reality on your bottom left of the page to your vision on the top right.
Like every staircase, your’s too should have steps and these steps are the steps you have to take to get from where you are to want to be.
Now you’re thinking logically.
Ok what does step one look like?
You want to start a business?
Doing what exactly? (Answer this yourself)
Ok who currently knows you as that person?
Nobody? Or a few people?
And how is your confidence in doing the above?
Then your first step is to start building your confidence in that area while adding some value to people online so others start to see you as a leader in that space.
Generally, this will be done through doing a course related to what you need to learn or be qualified at, working with people in person and setting up a social presence that demonstrates that you are helping people and that you know what you are doing.
This will take time but you’ve got to start somewhere.
Ok, what’s your second step now that you are one step further ahead?
Maybe it’s to start building a website and start branding yourself online so people know you as what you want them to know you as.
Don’t think about selling anything though, you’re not there yet.
Just work on building your website and do it yourself, for free. Remember you’re not getting bogged down in the shiny objects, that will come later, just strive for progress.
Start demonstrating your work on your website, show testimonials from people your worked with and write some articles to add value to your potential clients.
Step 3, what does that look like?
Maybe now you’ve built an audience of a few hundred followers in the past few months online. Great.
Your next step is to create something to sell either online or in person.
Don’t just sell anything though – you’ll fail quickly at that.
Think of what gives you life and what you’re really passionate about and how you’d like to help others?
Bottle that up and sell it – it can be done.
Step 4 – you get the gist.
What you’re trying to do is build the steps to getting to where you want to be rather than starting something and quitting a week later because you see no return and feel overwhelmed.
The truth is that is takes time to get to where you want to be but you will get there if you plan it out, take the necessary action and be patient with yourself in the process.
Add in a good mix of faith too, that will certainly be needed.
Below is an attached set of worksheets to download from my signature Change4Good course where I help my Fit4Life graduate clients get started with on their business journey once they cut out all the hold backs through Fit4Life.
Use these to map out your steps and take MASSIVE ACTION.
