Here’s the biggest mistakes I have made

As an Irish expat living in Australia for the past 9 year’s there has been a lot of mistakes that I have made along the way.

Here’s the biggest ones that I hope I can help you avoid or change!

1️⃣ Drugs. Yep, I’ve been no angel in the past, I am sure a lot of you know that by now so the first thing on my list of things to avoid is this.

Everybody is going to try different things and that’s understandable but if you are going out every weekend and the topic of conversation is always “bags” you’ve got a problem and need to change it fast.

2️⃣ Don’t follow the crowd. I get a lot of criticism for this because it looks like I am always calling out construction work but honestly I’m not. Construction work for both male and females is a huge industry for Irish expats and I know a lot of people love what they do which is great because if you are happy you’ve hit the nail on the head.

But I do know a lot of people who are unhappy and want to change but because the majority of work for an Irish expat is in construction, you feel like you cant change or move towards something more fulfilling for you.

I’m telling you that you can and that you must if you are feeling this way. Don’t follow the crowd and go after your own dreams, anything is possible.

3️⃣ Be adventurous. With a huge drinking culture its hard to get anyone to do anything different with you on the weekends. But don’t wait for someone to go somewhere or try something new with you because you will be waiting by their grave if you do.

Go and do the things that you always said you would love to do and find out what you like and don’t like so you can live with more passion, meaning and purpose.

4️⃣ Live somewhere you love. It’s easy to live somewhere thats close to work but do you like living there or is your live orientating around your job?

You live in an amazing country so find a place you absolutely love and move there because the happier you are the better you will do in your career and life even if it takes you an extra 20 minutes to drive home!

Be different – be you. I hope these help!
